The NYPD is facing an escalating crisis, with nine officers dying by suicide so far in 2019, seven of them since the start of June. Two took their lives in just a two-day span. The NYPD has said it typically averages four to five officer suicides a year. The series of recent tragedies has prompted all levels of police leadership to speak out on the need for cops to look after their mental health -- and that of their colleagues.
