Nidia Joseph Delgado faces two counts of acting in a manner injurious to a child.

    What to Know

    • A Brooklyn woman allegedly abandoned her two kids in the employee parking lot at LaGuardia while on a job interview

    • The two girls, ages 7 and 8, told police they did not know where their mother was

    • The mother, Nidia Joseph Delgado, now faces two criminal charges

Two young girls were left alone in a parked car in an airport lot Wednesday afternoon as their mom allegedly went for a nearby job interview.

Port Authority police officers at LaGuardia airport found the girls – ages 7 and 8 – alone inside a Nissan Maxima around 3 p.m.  The car was unlocked and the motor was running with the air conditioning on.

When police officers asked the children where their mother was, or if they had her contact information, the children said they did not know.

Police said the girls were alone in the car for about an hour.  They said the girls did tell them the school they attend and obtained the mom’s contact information from school officials.

When police called the mom – Nidia Joseph Delgado – she told them she was in the middle of a "job interview," said Port Authority police spokesman Joseph Pentangelo. Joseph Delgado, who lives on Moore Street in Brooklyn, later returned to the car and was arrested on child endangerment-related charges.

Administration for Children’s Services officials took the two girls to Forest Hills Hospital where they were examined and released.

When police questioned the mom, she allegedly claimed she did nothing wrong because she had left the air conditioning on for the kids, Pentangelo said.

Police now looking into whether Joseph Delgado had a valid driver’s license at the time she allegedly drove the girls to her job interview at LaGuardia.

Attempts to reach Joseph Delgado and her lawyer were not immediately successful.
