Last-Minute Plan: Lovebirds Lou Reed & Laurie Anderson @ The Stone

p { margin-bottom: 0.08in; }a:link { }Ah, the great couples of music: Ike and Tina Turner. Stevie Nicks and Lindsay Buckingham. And of course, the artiest, downtowniest twofer of them all, Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson.

How in love are these two? Soooo in love, they're appearing tonight together at the Stone, the East Village experimental-music space, for a special Valentine's week show. It's part of the month of events they've curated for the Stone, whose artistic director, John Zorn, the marrieds have collaborated with before.

From the Nonesuch Records blog:

The month's events include a special Valentine's Day duo by Anderson and Reed on February 15, a duo performance from Anderson and guitarist Fred Frith on the 23rd, as well as weekly Open House events every Sunday, in which visitors are invited "to hang out, drink great coffee, read, listen to unusual presentations and invent alternative ways to live and work." The Open Houses include presentations on a wide range of topics, from the history of boilers to, appropriately enough, teaching music to dogs.

DIY prog-punk purveyors Buke and Gass open (the pair's name refers to their instruments, a “buke,” which is a modified six string baritone ukelele, and a “gass,” a hybrid of guitar and bass), and join in the music with Reed and Anderson.

Lou Reed and Laurie Anderson Valentine's Day Duo, Tuesday February 15 at 8 and 10PM at The Stone, East 2 Street and Avenue C. Tickets are $40 at the door just before showtime.
