    Spring kicked off with an unexpected dose of wintry weather, forcing tri-staters hoping for T-shirt weather to instead don parkas on the vernal equinox.

    Though the region didn't see a blizzard, there was enough snow in places to shovel or have a late-season snowball fight. In Suffolk County, totals topped 3.5 inches in some places.
