More Poon Added to the Downtown Hotel Orgy

Throw yet another hotel into the Hudson Square hospitality clusterfuck that we announced last week. This one is rising at 179 Varick on the site where the old Culture Club fun zone used to sit. But fear not, there will be a new playroom up top at the 19th floor's rooftop bar. The design comes from architect Peter Poon whose Hampton Inn a few blocks down on Watts Street opened this fall. Unlike a new neighbor rising around the corner this hotel will be all new construction. So far, it's up to floor three and should top out around the end of the year. By then, there will be hotels visible all around. Let's just hope the tourists keep coming.
