The Tribeca Film Festival was founded by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro and Craig Hatkoff to celebrate New York City as a major film-making city and to help the city in its long-term recovery from the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. It has screened more than 1,400 films from over 80 countries since the first festival in 2002.
