What has eight thousand arms and legs and runs down Broadway? The 3rd Annual New York City Dance Parade! On Saturday, May 16, get ready to bust a move (or at least watch about 4,000 parade participants doing so) when the parade kicks off with more than 55 dance styles - ballet to Bulgarian, Capoeira to Contra, bellydance to ballroom dance, zydeco to zouk. Even roller disco!
The parade starts at 1PM (plan to be alongthe parade route by about noon) at 27th Street; dancers and floats will shimmy, tap, twirl and crunk down Broadway, and then swing (literally) East onto Saint Marks. The whole shindig culminates in a massive dance party -- complete with performances and free lessons in specific dance styles -- in Tompkins Square Park.
