Barbie has turned 50-years-old, which is a very practical age, so it makes sense that she's giving up her gas-guzzling Corvette for a more economical car.
The Mattel toy icon celebrated her newly minted pentagenarianess at a real life Malibu beach house on Monday and awaiting her in the garage was, as former "Price is Right" host Bob Barker would say, "a new car!"
Volkswagen helped to usher in the milestone with a tricked out pink VW Beetle convertible.
The life-size Barbie-mobile features white custom leather interior, hand-stitched floor mats and a motorized vanity in the truck, as well as plenty of mirrors, rhinestone accents and of course, pink everywhere.
"We are extremely proud to partner with Mattel and create a customized new Beetle convertible to celebrate Barbie's landmark birthday," said Laura Soave, GM of Marketing for Volkswagen of America. "Like the new Beetle, Barbie has made a remarkable impact on pop culture history, and still remains a cultural icon today."
Model Heidi Klum -- who is very Barbie-ish her self, apart from being married to a Nigerian "Ken" (London-born singer Seal) -- appropriately showed off the super-girly car at the Barbie 50th Birthday bash in Malibu on Monday night. We just wish Barbie (and Heidi) had bought American.
