U.S. Serena Williams return's the ball during an exhibition match "Best of Belgium" against Belgium's Kim Clijsters at the King Baudouin stadium in Brussels, Thursday July 8, 2010.
Top ranked women's tennis player, Serena Williams, needs surgery after she cut her right foot on broken glass at a restaurant.
The World Team Tennis originally stated that the cut would sideline Williams for the rest of the 2010 season, while her Washington Kastles team said the tennis pro needed stitches and would miss several matches, said the AP.
Wiliams' foot surgery and past knee injury will put a major dent in an otherwise successful 2010 season.
In July, Serena crushed the competition to win her second straight Wimbledon title.
Williams also dominated at the Australian Open in late January, where she added another major title to her tennis resume.
But in June, the superstar was upset by Aussie, Samantha Stosur at the French Open and spent most of the spring season recovering from an injury in her left knee.
Williams plans back on the courts in time for the U.S. Open, which begins on August 30 in New York.
