Eight people were injured Tuesday afternoon in a school bus accident in Farmingdale, according to Nassau County police.

A small school bus carrying 11 special needs children had just left Weldon E. Howitt Middle School when it crashed with two other cars at the intersection of Conklin Street and Secatogue Avenue, authorities said.

As many as four of the students on the bus were taken to area hospitals. Four adults from the bus and the other cars involved in the crash were also taken to the hospital.

    All the injuries were minor.

It wasn't immediately clear how the accident happened but police are not expected to file charges.

The rest of the children on the bus were taken home by their parents.
