Woman Struck and Killed by Taxi in Manhattan

A woman was struck and killed by a taxi cab in Manhattan early Sunday morning, police said.

The woman was hit near the intersection of Third Avenue and East 27th Street just before 2 a.m. The driver of the cab remained at the scene of the accident.

According to police, the woman suffered severe leg trauma. She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

An investigation revealed that the cab had been traveling north on Third Avenue when another car hit the back of the cab, causing the driver to lose control and spin towards the sidewalk, hitting the woman.

The woman's idenity is unknown. No criminality is currently suspected. An investigation is ongoing.
