A 34-year-old woman is hospitalized with severe lacerations to her body after three pit bulls attacked her outside a Long Island home.

Nassau County police say the dogs attacks while the victim was arguing with the dog's owner who was visiting the North Merrick home Thursday afternoon.

Police say the owner attempted to pull the dogs off when one of them bit her in the elbow.

Police say there were five pit bulls in all, but only three were involved in the attack.

The 34-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with lacerations to her arms, legs, face and back of the head. She's listed in stable condition.

The 35-year-old dog owner was treated and released.

Town of Hempstead Animal Control issued summonses and removed the dogs.
