L.I. Robbery Suspect Shot by Cops in Mall Parking Lot

NBC 4 New York

A robbery suspect on Long Island was shot in a commercial parking lot by police officers when he backed his vehicle into one of them Tuesday evening, Nassau County police said.

An officer was patrolling the mall parking lot at 1100 Old Country Rd. in Westbury at about 5 p.m. when he noticed a white minivan that had been involved in a past robbery, authorities said.

As the officer approached the minivan, the driver backed the vehicle into another responding officer, prompting that officer to fire shots.

The suspect was struck in the leg, and taken to Long Island Jewish Medical Center in serious but stable condition.

None of the officers were hurt, authorities said. The incident is under investigation.
