Dispute Leaves 2 Dead, 1 Wounded in Newburgh

Officers found the body of Bertha Williams on the front steps of a home on Mountain View Avenue and discovered the body of Rebecca Winter inside a nearby trailer

Two women are dead and a man is hospitalized with stab wounds after a dispute among friends turned violent in Newburgh Saturday.

According to police, responding officers found the body of 78-year-old Bertha Williams with multiple stab wounds on the front steps of a home on Mountain View Avenue and discovered the body of 36-year-old Rebecca Winters inside a nearby trailer. Winters had been shot, police said.

Officers also found 60-year-old Bruce Montanya with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition

Police are still investigating what caused the stabbings and shooting, though they believe a dispute began after Winters entered the trailer where Williams and Montanya lived.

Autopsies on Winters and Williams were being conducted Sunday.
