Teen Babysitter Arrested in Toddler's Death

Police have arrested a 17-year-old Brooklyn teenager on murder and manslaughter charges in the death of a toddler in his care.

Nine-month-old Ryan Ferrer died Tuesday from blunt impact injuries, the New York City medical examiner said Wednesday. His death was ruled a homicide.

The medical examiner's office also says the baby suffered bleeding in his brain and his internal organs were bruised and cut.

Authorities say Martin Quirindongo was babysitting the infant Tuesday morning while the mother was at work. Police responded to a 911 call and say the child was unconscious when they arrived at the apartment located in a Bronx housing project on West 225th Street. The baby later died at a hospital.

The baby was of a healthy height and weight when he died.

It wasn't immediately clear whether Quirindongo had an attorney.
