Teen Charged in Manhattan Robbery Spree, Attempted Rape: NYPD

A 15-year-old boy has been accused of trying to rape a woman amid a five-day spree of robberies across Manhattan, police say.

The teen is charged with attempted rape, sex abuse and multiple robbery and burglary charges, the NYPD says.

Police arrested the boy after a string of crimes between Jan. 15 and Sunday across Manhattan that included the attempted rape and seven robberies and attempted robberies

In the attempted rape early Sunday, a woman told police she was walking into a residential building on East 116th Street in East Harlem when a suspect told her he had a firearm before putting his hand over her mouth. He took her to an isolated part of the building and tried to rape her, police say, but the woman was able to get away.

In the robberies, the suspect stole cash, phones, a heavy coat and other items from women in Morningside Park, East Harlem and areas in lower Manhattan. In several of the robberies, the suspect threatened to shoot victims and pretended to have a gun in his pocket or under his shirt.

One victim told police the suspect showed a handgun during a robbery.
