Suspect Arrested in Serial Ski-Mask Sex Assaults, Beatings in Bronx

Police arrested a suspect who wore a ski mask when he allegedly violently beat and sexually assaulted at least four women in the Bronx in the last month and a half, authorities said.

Miguel Lopez, of the Bronx, was arrested Wednesday in connection with the ongoing investigating dating back to late February.

In each of the attacks, police say the suspect approached the female victims, three of whom were in their 20s, from behind, punched them repeatedly in the face and sexually assaulted them. Some of the attacks were early in the morning; others occurred at night.

The suspect wielded a box cutter or a knife in two of the sexual assaults; police say he beat and sexually abused at least three women in one week before they caught him.

The most recent attack was Sunday, when the suspect followed a man and woman into a residential building in Bedford Park, brandished a weapon and stole money from both before following the woman up to her apartment, forcing his way inside and raping her, police said.

The 33-year-old Lopez faces an array of sexual and assault charges, including rape, attempted rape, aggravated sexual abuse and robbery. Information on an attorney wasn't immediately available.
