A rabid skunk has been captured in Pleasantville, N.Y., and health officials are warning anyone who may have had contact with it to seek treatment.

The skunk had appeared disoriented and unhealthy, and was captured days ago in Rockefeller State Park. Test results confirmed Tuesday that it was rabid.

"Anyone bitten by a rabid animal, or having contact with its saliva, may need to receive immediate rabies vaccination," said Dr. Cheryl Archibald, acting health commissioner of Westchester County.

Rabid animals may appear unusually aggressive or unusually tame, officials said. They are also known to stagger and froth at the mouth.
