Officer stood by while two women attacked teenager, stole cellphone

Authorities have charged an off-duty policeman on charges stemming from the armed robbery of a 17-year-old girl in New Jersey.    

Prosecutors say 40-year-old Herne LaCoste looked on as two women assaulted the girl after the robbery in Raritan on Sunday.

The girl told police the 18-year-old suspects stole her cellphone, bus ticket and a transit card.     

The Irvington police officer is free on $20,000 bail, charged with official misconduct and weapons charges. It's not clear if he has hired a lawyer.

Shanikah Daniels is charged with robbery, possession of a handgun and other charges.     

Markessa Coleman is charged with aggravated assault.
