New Museum exhibition to feature napping women
An artwork using a real model entitled 'This is Holly' made from bed, Holly and sleeping pills as displayed in October 2006 in London at The Frieze Art Fair.
People have done crazy things for the sake of art, and now the New Museum is seeking women who will agree to take a sleeping pill, crawl into bed and take a nap for six hours as part of an upcoming exhibition.
The museum has been "inundated with replies already” NewYorkology reports.
The "human sculpture" is the concept of artist Chu Yun, who previously staged the work at the Frieze Art Fair in London in 2006. The title of the work changes depending on who's in the bed that day, as in "This is Kate" to "This is Jenny."
New Museum of Contemporary Art told NewYorkology it will pay participants $10 an hour if they're selected to sleep in the exhibition, which will open April 7.
Sleeping in the museums seems to be the "in" thing to do lately. The Guggenheim Museum opened a one-bed hotel as part of its “Revolving Hotel Room” installation. That exhibition is now closed, as the Guggenheim today opens its new blockbuster: The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860–1989.
