Man Injured Trying to Drag Burning Mattress Outside

A Newark, N.J. man is in critical condition after trying to drag a burning mattress out of his apartment.

The man was being treated at Saint Barnabas Medical Center, according to Capt. John Brown of the Newark Fire Department.

Officials responded to the fire at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to nj.com.

The victim was found outside, where he had tried to draw the burning mattress. It became caught in the stairs, and he fled outside without it.

He suffered burns on his face, legs and arms.
