Authorities say an officer shot an armed man in the leg outside a Brooklyn playground.

According to police, a 26-year-old man with a handgun was seen by officers Saturday afternoon running after two other men through the playground in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Police say the officers chased the armed man and told him to drop the weapon. They say the suspect turned toward the officers and that's when one of the officers fired his service weapon, hitting the man in the leg.

The suspected was transported to a nearby hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Police say a loaded .40 caliber semi-automatic was recovered at the scene.
