NYC Taxi Cab Driver Hits NYPD Vehicle While Fleeing Traffic Stop: Police

A yellow taxicab driver smashed into a police car while trying to take off from a traffic stop near Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan Monday evening, authorities say.

Police initially pulled over the taxi cab driver near 45th Street and Madison Avenue at about 5:15 p.m., according to the NYPD. The officer was still in the patrol car behind the cab when the cabbie backed into the police vehicle and then took off.

Police followed the taxi for half a block before pulling him over a second time at 44th Street near Vanderbilt, police said.

The officer in the patrol car hit by the cabbie was taken to Bellevue Hospital with back and neck injuries, according to police.

The cab driver was also taken to the hospital with back and neck injuries, and charges are pending.
