Police Arrest 13-Year-Old Brother of Boy Who Allegedly Brought Loaded Gun to Brooklyn School

Police arrested the 13-year-old brother of an 8-year-old boy who allegedly brought a loaded handgun to his Brooklyn school last week.

The older brother was arrested Saturday and charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

Because he is 13, he was charged as a juvenile and the case against him will be heard in family court.

Police believe the teen gave the firearm to his younger brother, who then took it to P.S. 91 in East Flatbush last Friday.

The principal of the school called police after a teacher said she found the Taurus handgun in the 8-year-old boy’s bag. The gun had four bullets inside, police said.

On Friday, the head of the city's school security guards union again called for more metal detectors and scanners at schools. The union has been vocal about installing the machines after a rash of similar incidents in the spring in which students were caught with guns.
