Man Denied Drink Grabs Bartender's Hair, Bashes Her in Head With Glass: Cops

The 38-year-old bartender needed five stitches to close the wound on her head

A man frustrated by a Murray Hill bartender's refusal to serve him alcohol grabbed the 38-year-old woman by the hair and hit her in the head with a glass, leaving her with a wound that required stitches, according to police.

Authorities say the bartender denied the man service after he didn't pay for his previous round of drinks at J Jack Bar Room on Sanford Avenue Sept. 18.

Surveillance video shows the suspect sitting on a stool, talking to the bartender, presumably trying to plead his case for a drink. Eventually, he gets off the stool, whacks the woman on the side of the head and then attacks her from the other side.

The bartender went to a hospital, where she got five stitches to close the gash on her head.

Police are looking for the suspect. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
