Police shut down a public park in Rockland County on Sunday when a wooded area was taken over by a small family: a mother bear and her three cubs.
The four black bears scaled a tree in Manny Weldler Park after the arrival of a group of neighborhood kids from the hamlet of Monsey, Town of Rampo police said. Concerned about the safety of onlookers, police closed the park.
Police expect the bears will leave the area during the night and the park will reopen on Monday.
