Long Island Toddler Drowns in Pool, Babysitter in Critical

Tragedy struck on Long Island today, when a toddler drowned in a swimming pool -- and her nanny was sent to the hospital after trying to save her.

According to police, a handyman working at 2 Beechwood Drive was alerted at about 2:35 p.m. that two people were unconscious in a backyard in-ground swimming pool.

When the worker went to investigate, he found a three-year-old girl floating face down along with her babysitter, a woman in her thirties.

Both were taken to St. Johns Hospital in Far Rockaway. Three toddler was pronounced dead by hospital staff and the babysitter was listed in critical condition.

The identities of the victims were being withheld pending family notification. The investigation is ongoing.
