Parking for LIRR commuters that live in one Long Island town will be easier thanks to a new proposal that could expand the number of resident-only parking spaces.
Bellmore, Main Station House, Sunrise Highway and Bedford Avenue, and Bellmore stations will expand their resident-only parking spaces to 6,400, Hempstead Town Supervisor Anthony J. Santino and Councilman Gary Hudes announced Thursday.
The initiative will be a 165 percent increase in resident-only parking spaces, authorities said.
Residents will be required to buy a permit to park in the lots, which will cost $10 per year.
People who live in Hempstead say they're fans of the proposal and noted that parking is difficult to find when they want to get to the train.
