Man Arrested for Fatal Long Island DWI

A man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after being involved in a fatal crash on Long Island early Saturday, police said.

Thomas Stavola, 54, was allegedly driving drunk at around 4 a.m. when he hit another car on E. Main Street in Smithtown. Monica Peterman, 45, who was inside the car Stavola hit, died after being taken to to St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center.

Information on a lawyer for Stavola was not immediately available.
