Escaped Florida Prisoner on Run for 17 Days Captured in NYC Abercrombie & Fitch

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement says an inmate who escaped from a West Palm Beach area prison has been captured in New York City.

The Palm Beach Post reports the NYPD arrested 53-year-old Philip Peletz as he tried to leave an Abercrombie & Fitch store Aug. 21 with more than $1,400 in merchandise. He'd been on the run for 17 days.

According to state law enforcement officials, Peletz remains in a New York City jail where he's being held without bail. He was serving time in Florida for various thefts and was set for release in 2018.

Peletz escaped the low security Loxahatchee Road Prison Aug. 4.

K-9 units tracked him for hours along a two-lane road where he was seen getting into a pickup truck. He hadn't been seen since.
