Woman, 74, Attacked By Homeless Man Wielding Nail-Studded Lumber

She was walking down the street when he attacked.

Police say a 74-year-old woman walking down the street was attacked by a homeless man with a nail-studded piece of lumber over the weekend.

According to the Daily News, Kim Chong was attacked on East 40th Street near Madison Avenue at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

Police say the suspect, Andre Lineaux, approached her and beat her with a plank from a nearby construction site. He did not utter a word, the News said.

“It sounded like someone got hit by a car,” Rasheeda Kin, 19, told the News. “Then, the first thing I heard was screaming. I saw people stop walking.”

Lineaux allegedly fled the scene but police caught him a few blocks away. He is charged with assault and weapons possession.

It was not immediately clear if he had a lawyer.

Chong was taken to Bellevue Hospital in serious condition.
