East Harlem Grandma Found Dead in Closet

The body of a 76-year-old grandmother was found stuffed in a closet at her East Harlem apartment on Wednesday.

According to the Daily News, concerned relatives went to the elderly woman’s apartment at the Wagner Houses on East 124th Street after they hadn’t heard from Cora Davis for two days.

When they arrived they found Davis’ 21-year-old grandson, Larry Davis, having sex with a prostitute on the grandmother’s bed.

The man took off after an argument erupted and relatives called police.

The 20-year-old prostitute was left behind.

Sources told the Daily News that when cops searched the apartment, they found Cora Davis’ body crammed in her bedroom closet under a pile of clothes. They also said investigators found signs she had been strangled.

The city medical examiner is still working to determine the exact cause of death.

Cora Davis had lived in the building for 40 years and was well known by residents there.

"It's just a horrible thing because she was a lovely lady," close friend Dorothea Sadler told the Daily News. "She didn't bother anybody."

Neighbors told the Daily News that Davis’ grandson had a drug problem and that cops had responded to several domestic incidents at the home. Law enforcement sources said his grandmother had an order of protection against him.

Police are searching for Larry Davis, who already had a warrant out for his arrest after he failed to show up in court to face trespassing charges earlier this month. He also had prior arrests for drug possession and assault.
