The parents of a popular Spanish radio DJ killed in a hit-and-run accident in Brooklyn are pleading for the driver to come forward as the family searches for closure in their son's shocking death.
The father of Jean Guerrero, known as DJ Jinx Paul on Mega 97.9 FM, said in an emotional plea Wednesday, "From the bottom of my heart, we ask the person who caused this harm to be more sincere with herself and let us know what happened, and why she did this."
"Why did you run?" he said. "We are peaceful people and just want her to simply come forward."
Guerrero's mother, Gloria, said, "We want justice. We will forgive, but show yourself, miss."
"Say something, please. You are killing me, too," she said. "You are killing my family. You left his son an orphan."
Police are still looking for the driver who fled the scene at Sheffield and Jamaica avenues after hitting Guerrero just after 4 a.m. Monday. NYPD Chief of Transportation Thomas Chan said police believe a woman got out of the car before taking off, though they have not determined whether she was a passenger or driver.
Investigators are canvassing for additional video and witnesses.
At a vigil Tuesday night, hundreds of fellow DJs and and fans crowded the thin median where Guerrero died, lighting candles and crying as they mourned him.
