Off-Duty Correction Officer Accidentally Shoots Himself, Colleague: DOC

The officer was transferring his gun from one holster to another

An off-duty correction officer accidentally shot himself and a colleague at a gas station in Brooklyn Friday as he was transferring the gun between holsters, authorities say.

The correction officer was transferring the gun from his pancake holster to his shoulder holster when the firearm discharged, a Department of Corrections spokesman said. The bullet hit the officer in the hand, then struck another off-duty officer in the hip.

The officers were at a gas station in Bushwick.

The officers were being treated for non-life threatening injuries at Kings County Hospital. No one else was hurt.
