Chinese National Gets Prison for Shooting Long Island Police Officer

A Chinese national from Brooklyn has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for shooting a Long Island police officer while fleeing a break-in.

Cong Xu was sentenced Tuesday in Nassau County Court.

He pleaded guilty in February to assault and burglary. He was 22 at the time of the 2013 shooting.

He admitted that he shot and wounded a Nassau police officer after breaking into a New Hyde Park home.

Officer Mohit Arora was out of work for months after being shot in the groin. He said Tuesday he is back on full active duty but is continuing to undergo physical therapy for his injuries.

Acting State Supreme Court Justice Philip Grella told Cong that he could be deported after he completes his sentence because he is not a U.S. citizen.
