Bronx Teen Gets 2 Years in Kitten Oven Roasting

A 17-year-old Bronx girl has pleaded guilty to attempted burglary and animal cruelty for killing a kitten in a 500-degree oven.

Authorities say Cheyenne Cherry and a 14-year-old friend ransacked a Bronx apartment in May before putting the kitten named Tiger Lilly in the oven, roasting it to death.

Under terms of the plea agreement, Cherry will be sentenced to two years in jail. She also can't own any pets for three years after her release. A previous guilty plea by Cherry had been vacated.

The 14-year-old received a sentence of 18-months in juvenile jail after she pleaded guilty to burglary and animal cruelty in August.

The animal suffered "an agonizing death," according to ASPCA official Joe Pentangelo.

"I think what was done cries out for justice," Pentangelo said after the incident. "It's a shame that this kitten had to suffer like this. For the kitten to get caught up in whatever was going on with them is a tragedy."
