Two people died after being critically injured in a Bronx fire Friday evening, officials said.

The fire began at about 4:30 p.m. on the second floor of a 14-story building near West 225th Street and Broadway, officials said.

It was brought under control by 5:15 p.m., but two people were critically hurt. They were taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where they were declared dead.

The victims were identified as 46-year-old Marilyn Brito and 47-year-old Juan Lizardo.

Four other people, including one firefighter, sustained minor injuries, officials said.

Twenty fire units responded to the fire, which was contained to one apartment.

It's not clear what caused the fire, but authorities said no criminality is suspected.
