Bloomberg: Call for Occupy Probe “Ridiculous”

Mayor says the congressman should forcus instead on making streets safer or improving schools

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says a New York congressman should spend his time getting the city more federal funds rather than calling for the government to investigate the police crackdown on the Occupy Wall Street camp.

Earlier this week, U.S. Rep. Jerrold Nadler urged Attorney General Eric Holder to launch a probe into allegations of excessive force used by NYPD officers against Occupy protesters in Zuccotti Park last month.

The mayor issued a statement Thursday calling Nadler's position "ridiculous."

Bloomberg says the Democrat should work, instead, on getting more government money to "make the streets safer" — or to improve schools.

The mayor says New York police action is not a federal issue.

Last month, police in riot gear cleared the park of protesters, arresting hundreds of people.
