Car Fleeing Police Strikes Bicyclist Near Penn Station: NYPD

A bicyclist was struck by a car evading police near Penn Station on Sunday, authorities say.

Police responded to a call just after 7:30 p.m. about a man spinning his car wheels at a parking garage on 34th Street.

The driver sped away when police attempted to pull him over. Witnesses said they heard a big big bang and that is when the driver hit the bicyclist and narrowly missing a crowd of pedestrians, police said.

He then drove down Seventh Avenue in the wrong direction, officials said.

Police caught up with the the car one block later, but cops say the driver took, leaving his passenger behind. 

The passenger was taken in for questioning and eventually caught up with the driver one block away and arrested him, police said. 

The bicyclist, a 32-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital in serious but stable condition, police said.

The bicyclist was hit so hard he had his skin ripped off, witnesses said.
