1 Teen Killed, 3 Injured in Brooklyn Shooting

Mourners left candles and messages outside the home of 18-year-old Mario Lopez

Mourners left candles and messages outside the home of 18-year-old Mario Lopez, who died in a Brooklyn shooting that injured three other teenagers.

The shots rang out outside the Marcy Houses in Bedford-Stuyvesant at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday. According to police, Lopez was shot in the chest and pronounced dead at Woodhull Medical Center.

"He was a fun person," said Manuel Saez, Lopez's brother. "He liked to play basketball."

Authorities say investigators are looking into whether the violence may have escalated from a nearby basketball game.

One witness said the violence flared up near the game.

"I heard approximately 12 shots, then the crowd began to disperse from the basketball tournament," said Umar Jordan. "We find two young men lying on the steps."

Police say a 13-year-old boy who was shot in the neck is in critical condition at Woodhull. A 14-year-old boy who was shot in the leg and a 15-year-old boy, also shot in the leg, are listed in stable condition.

No arrests have been made.
