Police have released security video of a gunpoint robbery at a Manhattan gym earlier this month and are asking for the public's help identifying the two suspects, who were wearing costume masks and a Prince Fielder baseball jersey.
The robbers walked into the Planet Fitness gym at 177 Dyckman St. in Inwood just before midnight on Tuesday, Sept. 16, police said.
Video shows one of them jumping over the front desk and cornering the worker at gunpoint. The two appear to demand she open the registers, which she does, and the suspects grab the cash and stuff it into a bag, then run away.
Gym members going to the popular chain gym Tuesday night said news of the brazen robbery made them feel uneasy.
"It's a little scary," said Carlos Roman.
"I didn't know there was that much money," said Kal Fox. "People usually pay by check or credit card."
One of the suspects was wearing a mask, a black hoodie, blue jeans and white gloves. The other was wearing a mask, a Milwaukee Brewers baseball jersey with Fielder's name on the back, a baseball cap and white gloves.
