Man Stabs His Father, Punches His Mother Before Setting a Long Island Home on Fire: Police

A young man on Long Island attacked his parents in their home, stabbing his father and punching his mother, then fled and set another home on fire, police said.

Brian Alejo, 21, of Cedarhurst, was charged with attempted murder, assault, arson, criminal possession of a weapon and attempted escape.

Alejo was arguing with his parents at their home in Cedarhurst when he attacked his father and stabbed him several times, Nassau County police said. The father was hospitalized in critical condition, the mother, Rosa Alejo, told Telemundo 47.

Then, police said, he punched his mother and ran off. Rosa Alejo said she has a black eye.

He allegedly hid in a garage on First Street in Cedarhurst for several hours before starting a fire which engulfed the entire residence and damaged a nearby house. Everyone inside the homes escaped without harm, police said.

Alejo turned himself in, but then tried to escape custody and was restrained by several officers, police said.

It wasn't immediately known whether Alejo had an attorney.
