PATH Service to Midtown Manhattan Resumes After Tunnel Fires

PATH train service between New Jersey and midtown has resumed after a pair of fires broke out in a tunnel in Manhattan Sunday, forcing service to be suspended through Monday's morning commute.

The FDNY said the fires sparked just after 3:30 p.m. Sunday at 19th Street and Sixth Avenue in Chelsea. According to the Port Authority, at least one fire started in an electrical room.

No injuries were reported but the 23rd Street station was evacuated. The blazes also sent smoke billowing into the air above ground.

Crews worked overnight to repair the damage and had to cut power to the lines.

World Trade Center-bound lines from both Hoboken and Newark were running Monday morning.
