Metro-North Railroad says service has been restored followed a trash fire on a track at Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan.

Railroad spokeswoman Marjorie Anders says the Fire Department had asked for third rail power to be turned off while the fire was being extinguished.

Smoke in the tunnels after the fire was put out prolonged the suspension of service.

During the interim, customers were advised to use the subway to connect to Metro-North's station at 125th Street.
