Ethan Hawke Gushes Over Madonna

"She transcended being a pop star," the actor said

Madonna may have a new biggest fan.

Hunky actor Ethan Hawke lavished praise on the Material Mom over the weekend for speaking out against the discrimination of Gypsies during a her "Sticky & Sweet" concert tour over the summer.

"She transcended being a pop star," Hawke said. "She drew international attention and shone the spotlight on a level of racism and the need for greater education."

"I don't have an agenda. Madonna doesn't have an agenda. We aren't politicians."

The 38-year-old actor was visiting Romania to help with his mom's charity, which supports education for Gypsy children in Europe where as many as 2 million Gypsies reside.

The Material Mom drew jeers from the crowd during an August concert in Bucharest when she called for an end to discrimination.

Hawke has been coming to Romania for nearly 10 years to help support the charity, which was raffling off a pair of Madonna's autographed Christina Dior heels at a charity ball over the weekend.

"I feel I can do something instead of being part of the problem," Hawke said.
