We're Loving: Wren's Holiday 2010 Collection

Designer holiday collections tend to be dominated by velvet, glitter, and a whole lotta sequins. All good things if December saddles you with thirty-one different party occasions, but less practical if you're just looking to revv up a day-to-day wardrobe for the winter.

That's where Melissa Coker, our favorite Angeleno stylist-turned-designer, comes in. Coker, whose recent collaboration with Target augurs a big bump in brand recognition, focused her holiday collection for 'wren' on what she does best: playful, no-fuss separates that are simple without skimping on personality.

Indeed, velvet does make a few appearances, but only in effortless little miniskirts and cropped blazers (perfect to get through chilly winter months at the office). We're drooling over a navy-and-ruby rose print, which works to maximum effect on a poufy high-waist skirt. More casual pieces—like a black-and-white striped shift—are the sort of "any-occasion" lifesavers that make wren so appealing to ladies who don't like to sweat over high style.
