LOVE by Richard Chai: Earthy Neutrals with “a Little Sparkle”

It wasn't announced that the Richard Chai's Fall 2010 women's show would feature only looks from his diffusion line, Love, but we're happy to report that it was a nice--if slightly over-layered--surprise.

Chai executed Fall 2010 in a soft palette of earthy neutrals with glorious splashes of silver glitter--"a little sparkle is always nice," Chai explained--layered with faded floral prints.  Most notable were the super elongated silhouettes, which we found refreshing after four seasons of the Incredible Shrinking Hemline. "I was inspired by the girl who falls in love with the guy I design for," Chai told attendees at the chic Amex Skybox Lounge, where visitors were encouraged to peruse current collection samples at a mouth-watering 50% off.

Granted, the floor-sweeping skirts and "pajama pants" may not be the most practical choices for city-dwellers (and we weren't quite feeling the tank tops layered over turtlenecks), but we spotted more than a few must-haves, including a cadet blue cut-away coat in felted wool.

This is only the first of two presentations for Chai, and we can't help wondering if those PJ bottoms will make a cameo at the men's show too.
