Louis Vuitton's Parsons Design Competition

In a spirited contest Louis Vuitton held September 17 at Parsons, aptly titled, "Reconstruction", fashion design seniors Min Sun Kim and Yeo Chung Kim created the winning styles to be worn by musicians of the Nouveau Classical Project October 2 by reinterpreting pieces from the Marc Jacobs Louis Vuitton archives. Oh, and the lucky and talented ladies will also attend Louis Vuitton's Spring 2010 show in Paris.

In the end, it was a trench coat taken apart and given new life with intricate seam-work and a handpainted hem.  The design not only won the competition, but exposed the young designers' work to Lynn Yaeger and a big-time panel of designers including Daniel Lalonde, President and CEO, Louis Vuitton North America, Harold Koda, curator-in-charge, Costume Institute, Metropolitan Museum of Art and Esquire Magazine Director Nick Sullivan.

Kim and Kim beat out nine other teams of two in the finals, and several more participants who'd submitted sketches.  We'll have our eyes on these designers coming out of Parsons next year, for sure.
