Joseph Gordon-Levitt Co-starring With Scarlett Johansson in His Own Directorial Debut

By the time he'd executed that back flip during his "Singin' in the Rain" song-and-dance routine on "Saturday Night Live," Joseph Gordon-Levitt had proved he could do just about anything in front of the camera. Now he's moving behind it.

Gordon-Levitt will make his directorial debut helming his own script about a modern-day Lothario trying not to be such a jerk, reported Deadline.

“This is the first time I finished a feature film I thought was good enough to make into a movie... I wrote myself a helluva role, one that people wouldn’t necessarily thought of me for," JGL told Deadline.

In addition to a great role, he's also landed himself an A-list co-star, as Scarlett Johansson is on board, with another major female role yet to be cast.

Gordon-Levitt's been an actor most of his life, and has been making short films for ages, but in the past year-plus he's been paying particular attention while working on features with directors like Chris Nolan ("Dark Knight Rises"), Rian Johnson ("Looper") and Steven Spielberg ("Lincoln"). Working with those three has to be at least as instructive as going to film school.

The only downside for JGL fans is that shooting this new film may jeopardize his ability to appear in Quentin Tarantino's slave epic, "Django Unchained." Stay tuned.
