J.J. Abrams Officially Onboard for “Star Trek 2”

J.J. Abrams taking the helm of the Starship Enterprise doesn't exactly qualify as news, it's more like a dispatch from the Forgone Conclusion Desk. Still, it's comforting to know that it's official.

Abrams, and "Star Trek" scribes Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, are finally ready to get down to business, with pre-production already underway, and a script said to be done by the end of the month, reported Vulture.

It seems to silly to say about a man as respected/loved as Abrams, but the guy's been on something of a roll, with "Star Trek" and "Super 8" standing as two of the better popcorn films of recent vintage, and he's serving as producer on two of this fall TV season's more intriguing shows, "Person of Interest" and "Alcatraz." We're never to speak of "Undercovers" again.

Abrams involvement was never really in doubt, but all parties were waiting until Kurtzman had put the finishing touches his directorial debut, "Welcome to People," starring Chris "Capt. Kirk" Pine as a man who must deliver a $150,000 inheritance to a sister he's never met, played by Elizabeth Banks.
